1. Earn a great salary

Not only is teaching English a fun and rewarding career, but it presents a huge opportunity to save money. Did you know that you could be paid around $1,500 - $2,000 a month just for teaching English? - Not bad!

Depending on which location you are living or working in, there is a huge possibility that you will go home with savings after a year of fun and adventure.

This has made teaching abroad an increasingly popular option after graduation with plenty of people using this as a way to pay off student debts!

2. Discover whether teaching suits you

Whether you want to spend a year traveling while you earn or you want to gain some teaching experience, not only will you learn more about yourself on your adventure but you will also know whether teaching is something you actually enjoy. If you have friends or family who have taught in Asia before you will probably know that it's not unheard of for people to say they will only 'go for a year' but then stay for longer because of how much fun they're having!

3. Experience a new culture

Working and living abroad presents a huge opportunity to get involved with the locals and learn more about a different culture. You may even pick up on a new language while you're there!

One of the most popular reasons for teaching abroad is to learn a new language, especially for learning Mandarin in China. Not only do you have the perfect opportunity to practice with locals and native speakers, but you get to return home with a new language that will also make your resume stand out!

5. Meet new people

Although it may seem like you will be all alone in Asia, you WILL meet plenty of other expats just like you.

This is a great way to make new friends, whether they are also expats or locals. This will also come in very handy with getting around and finding things to do in your new location.

Facebook groups are a great way to reach out to others who are working abroad and get involved in social activities!

7. Learn a new language

One of the most valuable things you can take away from your time working abroad is a new language. Not only will this come in really handy when communicating with locals but when you return home, you may find that it boosts your resume or opens doors to more job opportunities.

Plenty of expats in Mainland China work towards completing a HSK examination (Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi) which is the Chinese Proficiency test for Mandarin. There are HSK course books that help you learn Mandarin and making friends with locals is a great way to perfect your pronunciation.
